United Way of Central Iowa

For over 100 years, United Way of Central Iowa has strived to create and implement initiatives focused on improving the lives of residents of central Iowa. The nonprofit relies on donations from individuals and businesses to invest in various programs that will increase the number of students who graduate from high school, the number of families who are financially stable, and our community’s overall health.

Sammons Financial Group has supported United Way of Central Iowa through monetary donations, committee membership, and employee volunteers for the past ten years. During this time period, our corporate and employee donations have totaled nearly $1.6 million.

One of United Way of Central Iowa’s major volunteer events is its annual Day of Action. This massive one-day affair was started in 1992 to encourage local businesses to allow employees to spend time away from work to volunteer for over 100 projects benefiting various nonprofit organizations across Iowa. An average of 10,000 hours in volunteer service is provided on the Day of Action.

Since 2010, Sammons Financial Group has been involved in the Day of Action. Our employees have volunteered for a wide range of activities, including landscaping projects, replacing sidewalks, putting together dressers, building retaining walls, stocking food pantries, reading to children, and more. In 2019, a total of 110 employees donated 341 hours at 11 different charities during the Day of Action.
