Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History
Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History in Sioux Falls, S.D. strives to fulfill four major objectives: education, conservation, recreation, and discovery. As a regional education leader, the zoo influences nearly 40,000 people each year ranging from infants to high school students through interactive ZooMobile programs, STEM learning, nature-inspired classes, and more. In addition, the zoo cares for over 1,000 animals from around the world within its 45-acre park.
Since 1985, Sammons Financial Group has supported Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History through employee volunteers and monetary donations. The company's donations have helped fund significant capital campaigns for the facility, including the Fortress of the Bears exhibit; the Monkeys, Magic and More iconic entryway designed to draw visitors to the snow monkey and flamingo exhibits; and a Building Our Community Pride initiative to create a vibrant habitat for the lions.
Most recently beginning in 2015, Sammons Financial Group made several donations to the ZooMobile program, which involves a vehicle traveling across South Dakota to provide 45-minute educational encounters led by a zoo educator and animal ambassadors. Over the past three years, the company's gifts have enabled ZooMobile to reach 96 poverty-level schools in 42 school districts. In 2019, Sammons Financial Group renewed the ZooMobile sponsorship, which will allow the zoo to continue to reach underserved students over the next two years.
