Galileo Scholastic Academy of Math & Science

Galileo Scholastic Academy of Math & Science’s (Galileo) is a public elementary school located in Chicago whose mission is to foster a nurturing learning experience for its students through collaboration, high expectations, and differentiated learning opportunities. Galileo aims to create lifelong learners and leaders through the use of technology, math and science applications, solid reading skills and the arts.

Sammons^® Financial Group, Inc. has been a proud community partner of Galileo for several years. Each year, employees of our Chicago office assist Galileo students in creating a yearbook for the school, host a group of 8th-grade students fora career day, and volunteer their time for ad hoc requests such as judging the school’s science fair.

In 2017, Galileo launched a Science for Tomorrow Initiative in an effort to transform a classroom into two adjoining science laboratories to be used by 4-5th-grade students. The students had been conducting science experiments in traditional classrooms with outdated equipment. Sammons Financial Group donated $60,000 towards the construction of the lab and $14,863 for its furniture. The labs were completed on May 7, 2018, and students immediately began using them.

Furthermore, Sammons Financial Group contributed $30,000 to Galileo’s after-school programming in 2017. Funds were allocated towards program costs including tutoring, student council and athletic teams offered to students. Approximately 250-300 participate in Galileo’s after-school program each year.
